What is a Store-Front Grant?

The SAGE Store-Front Grant program is a dollar for dollar matching grant program for Eastside Business Owners. The program is primarily designed to help businesses with exterior renovations/improvements of their property. However, interior renovations, equipment upgrades and technology upgrades are allowed if at least 50% of the grant is spent on the outside of the building. A matching grant means that for every dollar a grantee receives from SAGE, he or she must spend at least one dollar from another source.

How do I know if I am eligible for a SAGE Store-Front Grant?

In order to apply for a Store-Front Grant, you must:

  • Operate a for-profit business at a property that you own in the SAGE service area. Only property owners are eligible to apply for a Store-Front Grant;
  • Be able to provide a budget and task list;
  • Be able to submit accurate financials (Income Statement, Balance Sheet) for the last three months;
  • Not be delinquent with any taxes or fees to any federal, state, or local government agencies;
  • Be able to provide proof of availability of matching funds; and Have a project that is can be approved and permitted by proper governmental authorities.

Is my non-profit or church eligible for a grant?

Only for-profit businesses are eligible for the SAGE Store-Front Grant Program. If you are looking for assistance with your non-profit, please contact the San Antonio Area Foundation. This organization offers specialized support and training for Non-Profit professionals. In addition, St. Mary’s University Civic Engagement & Career Development Center can assist you in reaching volunteers and marketing upcoming events.

What is the SAGE Service Area?

Start at the intersection of I-10 and I-37, go north on I-37 and north on I-35. Both sides of the freeway back to Broadway and Fort Sam are in the SAGE service area. Continue to go north on I-35 until you reach the I-410 South cut off (near Rittman). Take I-410 South to Rigsby. Go west on Rigsby. The north side of Rigsby only is in the SAGE service area. Take Rigsby to I-10 then continue on I-10 to I-37.
