CultureFest & Rib Cook-off: An Official Fiesta Event

St. Philip’s College CultureFest and Rib Cook-Off is an official Fiesta event on the Eastside. SPC was established in 1898 and is the second fastest growing historically black college in the nation and the only one designated as both an HBCU and HSI. St. Philip’s College, one of the Alamo Colleges, is among the city’s oldest higher-education institutions. Enjoy a midday Fiesta celebration in a relaxed and family-friendly environment.  CultureFest features live music, food, dance, games and the hottest, celebrity-judged rib competition this side of San Antonio. Admission and parking are free. Funnel cakes are plentiful. All proceeds support scholarships.

SAAACAM Fiesta Blues Festival

The San Antonio African American Community Archive and Musuem (SAAACAM) is proud to present the inaugural Fiesta Family Blues Festival. Tickets will be $10 for attendees over the age of 12, and the event will include activites and entertainment for the whole family. Micahel Ward (also know as “the Velvet Violinist) is a San Antonio native who began playing musical instruments at an early age and regulary attended band practices with him mother, jazz singer Carol Ward. With six CDs to his credit and over 100 recordings with various artists, Ward has emerged as one of the leading studio violinists in the business. SAAACAM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations formed to collect, maintain, disseminate and interpret authentic African American artifacts related to San Antonio history, in a community-based digital archive. The organization’s goal is to reclaim San Antonio’s black history by empowering individuals to curate their own archives and cultivate a community-driven museum of digitized, audiovisual exhibits.

United Way Kids Festival is a free, community event for families in San Antonio and Bexar County. Over 65 booths (non-profits, school districts and city services) will provide information, activities, and entertainment focusing on the celebration and promotion of early childhood development. There will be a large variety of activities being offered for children of all ages. Kids Festival will have a Showmobile stage hosting numerous entertainment acts along with mascot characters.
